The Allen House Square Trivet
The Allen House, Henry and Elsie Allen, 1915 Wichita, Kansas.
The Allen House, that Frank Lloyd Wright considered “among my best”, is one of his last Prairie houses. The home simultaneously recalls the early houses of the period and preludes Wright’s Usonian style of the 1930’s. Wright designed the home while working on the Imperial Hotel in Tokyo and the square structure, with its enclosed lily pool and garden, has a notably Japanese aesthetic. Complimenting the rich exterior are equally sumptuous interiors of art glass windows, bookcase doors, and masonry wall joints covered in gold leaf.
